Agree or disagree: "Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all." -- Sam Ewing
I agree. Character is reflected in a person's work. Some work hard and "turn up their sleeves" and whether they like the job or not they work hard, which shows good character. Some "turn up their noses, in that they will only do a certain job and work hard at that job and no other, which shows somewhat good character. There are still some who "don't turn up at all" and choose not to work which shows how poor their character is because they do not work because they are lazy. This is not true for all people, but for many it is.
I agree with you, Paige. It's a bit like the "actions speak louder than words" idea. People can talk big, but they may not turn up when the real work needs to be done. Those who do turn up are those you know you can count on.
I agree with both of you. Hard work really brings out a person's character. But could there also be the factor that some people are not 'cut out' for hard work? I often hear that said, but should it be considered as a character trait or as a flaw in the person? For example, should we write this person off as a poor character who is lazy? There are many types of hard work; mental, physical, and emotional. So maybe a person had a handicap that enables them from doing a certain form.
I agree with this quote because working does show a persons character. When someone is willing to get the job done and do it the best they can, they're personality is usually like that. And when someone turns their nose up or doesn't even show up to do the job at all, you get a sense that they're personality will be like a slacker.
I would agree with this quote. When dealing with work you really have three choices, showup and do the work, show up but not really caring for it and trying, and not shoing up at all. Through your choices about would work, you reveal your true character. So the quotes is correct in saying that "hard work spotlights the character".
I do agree with this quote because you can tell how a person is by the way they work. If someone is slacking, you can tell that they are lazy. As opposed to somebody who works hard on something, whgich is determined and hard working.
I agree with this quote because I think that your willingness to work in a certain area reflects what kind of person you are. If you need a job and are willing to come in and work hard even if it's a difficult job then i think that shows something positive about your character. On the other hand, if you don't show up for work or complain about it all the time that is going to make you look like you have a bad character.
